Competition guidelines

What do we need?

We need you to submit a 2 minute pitch about happiness in your community. What makes you happy? Check out the entries page to see other people’s take on happiness.

What do you get?

Six winning pitches will receive will receive $500, a weekend of intensive documentary training and access to a mentor for the next phase of the project.

What is the next phase of the project?

To develop your idea from a pitch into a 4-6 minute mini-documentary that will screen as part of the Ideas Festival in May at The State Library of Queensland.

This is your chance to show-off your filmmaking skills and to tell the rest of the world about what makes your patch of turf such a special place.

Some things you should know:

  • Entries must be on the theme of happiness – your personal take on happiness is what will set your entry apart. Be creative!
  • Entries can be up to 3 minutes – it’s just a pitch, keep it short and get to the point. You can expand on your doco once you’re selected as a winner.
  • Your pitch doesn’t need to be a masterpiece, although form as well as content will be factored into the judge’s decision. It’s fine to shoot on a mobile phone or a webcam.
  • Entries will be accepted until 9AM  AEST April 27 2011.
  • Winners will be announced on 29 April 2011. You must be available to travel to Brisbane for the weekend of 7 and 8 May in order to participate in the weekend intensive training.
  • Winners will need to have their projects completed by 19 May.
  • Entries are required to be submitted to YouTube and via the online entry form. If you don’t want to share your happiness with the rest of the world just yet you can submit your film via three copies playable DVD copies to:

Allow a few days for the post to be delivered.

  • Entries will be published on the Ideas Festival website as they are received throughout the competition period.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit.
  • Entries that do not comply with the competition rules will not be considered.

The Rules

To be eligible to win prizes entrants in the My Happiness Film Project must be a Queensland resident. Other entrants are encouraged to participate, but will not be eligible to win prizes.

Competition judges and their immediate families are not eligible for prizes.

You warrant that you are the copyright holder for the material that you submit. We don’t want any copyright music appearing in your entries!

You will allow the State Library of Queensland to screen your film as part of the Ideas Festival program in May 2011.

Successful applicants will be required to sign a Consent and Release to participate in the My Happiness Film Project.

    this sounds great ! :) but where do we submit? do we upload to youtube ? and what about music? are we allowed to use any music and it doesnt matter whether or not it is copyrighted?
