After four days of amazing speakers, guests and facilitators the Ideas Festival for 2011 has come to a close. All except for our encore event with Michael Cunningham on 26 May.

We’ve broken world records by introducing 1359 ballerinas into the State Library of Queensland. We’ve eaten with Maggie Beer and roasted with Rod Quantock. You have had your say on the soapbox and had your ideas interpretted in the Flood of Ideas exhibition. We learnt that happiness is really important to you with these sessions being by far the most popular in the program. Fringe Ideas proved to be confronting, provocative and side-splittingly funny, and the crew from Cheez TV kept the laughs rolling.

We discussed how to redesign business for women, explored the implications of immortality and ponder whether it was beneficial to society to hold our politicians to higher standards. Sessions were filmed, photos were taken and you will be able to re-live the whole experience over the coming week as we upload all the content we’ve gathered from the festival.

In the mean time, what stand out idea planted itself in your brain this week? How are you going to nuture it and make it grow? Was there a question that wasn’t resolved or something that you would like to discuss more? We want to hear all about your unique festival experience!

What is Future City you ask? It’s a game, but this isn’t any ordinary game. Future City is a real world game that explores a fictitious environmental catastrophe and there will be zombies.

The game so far: Climate change intensified, so the city is empty and eerie. At the same time, a superbug is destroying human population and there is only a minority left.

I want to know how these six will survive without power, trade and medical supplies? How far do they have to go to get food and water? The game has begun…they have set up camp.

Zombies will be arriving at 5:30PM to dance to Thriller. Yes, this is happening…only at Ideas Festival.

Here are some hot tips for Saturday sessions:

Check out Modern Trends with The Social Studio – they’re challenging the fashion consumer industry, helping young people achieve their dreams and driving positive social change.

Suburban Tales is on again where you can hear another amazing story from our inspiring guests.

Populations in our regional areas are dropping as younger generations move to the cities. Should we be encouraging them to stay on the farms? Mayor of the Western Downs Regional Council Ray Brown will discuss this evening at 5pm.

Lighten up for the Cheez TV reunion – if you’re from Gen Y and loved watching cartoons over breakfast, you’ll remember presenters Jade Gatt and Ryan Lappin. Come and say hi on behalf of your younger selves.

And don’t forget that today is the day to have lunch with Maggie Beer, listen to Julian Burnside’s argument for why the courts should deal with dishonest politicians, and learn more about WikiLeaks and how it has paved the way for new discussions about freedom of information with London-based journalist Barbara Gunnell.

There are still places at many of the sessions so don’t worry if you haven’t registered, you can still come to Ideas Festival and just check at the door.

Or if you want to watch some from home, the sessions in The Edge Auditorium will be live web streamed on this website.

Ideas are now in full swing and we have a day jam-packed with thought-provoking sessions, storytelling and a discussion with Premier Anna Bligh.

We hear the word ‘sustainability’ almost everywhere these days, but what does it really mean? Are we headed towards achieving it in Queensland? Premier and Minister for Reconstruction Anna Bligh will be here today at Ideas Festival at 11am in a People’s Question Time where you can ask your questions about sustainability.

How did you first find out about the major events of 2011? Did you first see it on the TV news, on Twitter or on the front page of the newspaper? ABC NewsRadio’s Marius Benson and Editor in Chief of Quest Community Newspapers Neil Melloy will discuss whether journalists can still play a role in reporting on major events and how to find the line between prepared and panicked in reporting crises at The sky is falling.

This evening, you can also hear Waverley Stanley share his story of establishing Yalari, a thriving not-for-profit organisation offering scholarships to Indigenous children from remote, rural and regional communities across Australia.

The people of Rockhampton and Cloncurry should check out the program for the Ideas Festival on tomorrow (Saturday 21 May) in their areas. Rockhampton Regional Library is hosting the Reader’s guide to happiness and Cloncurry Library welcomes you to Grow Happy Day!

And if you can’t make any of the Ideas Festival sessions, don’t despair, we will be posting videos of the sessions after the Festival.

You can also have a browse through our library of Living Books. These people have a wealth of knowledge on a very diverse range of topics and all have their own unique story to tell.

Check out the Flood of Ideas exhibition while you’re here as well. This is your chance to add your ideas to the big question that has arisen from the events of early 2011: how can we better respond to floods and natural disasters in our community?

And if you need some food for thought and want to understand the science behind climate change, then have a listen to paleoclimatologist Curt Stager as he explains what is in store for life on earth over the next 100,000 years.

Other highlights include our Lumia: art/light/motion interactive new media exhibition and our Urban Garden.

In the girl guides’ spirit of always being prepared, here are a few tips to ensure you have a fantastic time at Ideas Festival.

Use public transport – we are close to the South Brisbane Rail Station, Cultural Centre Busway and Southbank ferry stops. We have a carpark, but it can fill quickly so avoid disappointment and check out your transport options at translink.com.au.

Remember to bring your printed tickets to the sessions you are attending.

If you haven’t booked for a session but you see something in the program you like, we might still be able to fit you in – just ask at the door.

The info desk on level 1 of the State Library is staffed with volunteers who can answer any questions you might have and there are also people wandering around in Ideas Festival t-shirts who can give you a helping hand.

If you are meeting friends there are handy little pods throughout level one that make a great place to sit and chat. You can buy food at The Library Café and through the coffee cart and grab ‘n’ go food stations out the front of the State Library. There will also be coffee and snacks available in The Edge.

Please be aware that you can only take handbag-sized bags in the auditoriums at the State Library so it might be best to pack light!

Above all, don’t be afraid to talk to the person next to you or ask questions of our speakers – everyone has great ideas that they are waiting to share!

The [toughproblem] team are hosting a series of conversations and workshops as part of the Ideas Festival 2011 to showcase the innovation process.

Using the theme of Portable Music Innovation, they will explore how immersion can unearth unmet and unexpressed user needs to inspire future designs.

Music has been a part of human culture for centuries but it wasn’t until music became portable and personal that we were able to unleash its power. We now know that music can influence life-styles, shape identities and just make people happy. Can you even imagine our lives without music on-the-go? Portable music has evolved dramatically over the past fifty years from the humble transistor radio to the Walkman to the iPod but has the basic human need really changed that
