Notorious Australian renegade and founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, paved a way for new realms of discussion and debate around freedom of information, transparency and journalism. London-based writer and editor and regular WikiLeaks commentator, Barbara Gunnell, was one of the few journalists permitted to attend Assange’s recent extradition trial, held in London in February of this year. Barbara shares her experiences and her observations on the repercussions of WikiLeaks and the work of its Australian leader. Barbara is also featured in the May edition of the Griffith REVIEW.

Barbara Gunnell is a writer and editor based in London. She was assistant editor of the Independent on Sunday from 1992–97, comment editor of The Observer from 2002–06 and associate editor of the New Statesman from 2006–09. She is also apast president of the National Union of Journalists, and is a regular contributor to The Observer.
