Each year, the homeless population of South East Queensland steadily increases. More than one third of Brisbane’s homeless population is under the age of 25 and providing basic needs, such as food, shelter and safety is only part of the solution. Why does homelessness exist in our affluent city? Do people really need to live on the streets? Anthony Ryan, founder of Eddies Street Van, challenges the belief that Brisbane is poverty-free and that homelessness is always a lifestyle of choice.
Anthony Ryan
Anthony Ryan has contributed significantly to the Brisbane community by establishing the Eddies Street Van (alongside Brother Damien Price). He has also established the Paddies Van to assist Brisbane’s homeless, street kids and the elderly. Commencing with two days a week, the programs have grown to provide daily assistance to the community. In recent years, Anthony has developed the Mimiki Foundation in South Africa to assist underprivileged children. Anthony has networked and devoted his talent and time to empowering others to reach out to those in need.

Hi – I would like to attend this, but won’t be able to get there – will any notes or recordings be taken?
Hi Courtney, all the sessions in our program will be recorded and available as vodcasts on our website after the Festival. Those sessions that are in the Edge Auditorium will also be live streamed.
Hi, Can you please let me know when we might be able to view this talk online and where I might find it ?
Thanks
We will have all the talks available on this website by the end of the week – each talk will be posted on the session page and also centrally available on a podcasts and vodcasts page in the top menu.
