Our world is evolving so rapidly that we can no longer sustain change without effective collective effort. When we look around, teams of volunteers are more often than not made up of friends and family; like-minded supporters of our projects and passions. We are inspired to make a difference together.
In this two-part workshop, social innovator Alissa Phillips will introduce tools and ideas for working in what are known as Do It Yourself (DIY) Communities.
Alissa will engage the group in a narrative around the co-creation of her own DIY Community s.p.a.c.e. Within her story, she will unpack what a DIY Community is, demonstrate how you can transform the social circle into council, explain how to engage a community in meaningful conversation and facilitate a ‘harvest’ (otherwise known as data collection) creatively and in real time. Alissa will also invite a collection of friends who are starting their own DIY communities to share their experiences.
Alissa will introduce workshop participants to World Cafe and the newest framework for collaborative conversations, The Pro-action Cafe. Learn how to use these conversational processes to develop projects, fundraise, resolve conflict, host meetings, manage participatory leadership, disseminate messages and strategise for the future.
The Do-It-Yourself Communities workshop will inspire and give young people the skills to lead their own team projects and build the community that they want to live in.
